According to the US Census, the current population of the United States in 2019 sits around 330 million, with much of that population moving to urban areas. The top 10 cities in the US by population make up nearly 8% of the entire population. While the Northeast and Midwest used to dominate the list of largest American cities, most of the top 10 are now in the Southwest and West. However, it will be difficult for any city to ever catch New York at the top of the rankings, as the Big Apple has been America’s largest city since the first US census in 1790 and is larger than Los Angeles and Chicago combined.
